Set in a near-future alternate reality, Scarlet Nexus imagines a world where humanity has built its civilization around a substance discovered in the human brain that grants extrasensory powers. This psionic society faces a relentless threat from the Others, mindless mutants that descend from an orbiting Extinction Belt to devour human brains. Standing against them is the Other Suppression Force, an elite unit of gifted soldiers who defend the city of New Himuka. The story unfolds through two of its recruits, Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall, each wielding powerful psychokinesis that lets them hurl objects and debris at their foes while fighting alongside comrades whose abilities they can temporarily share. As the two young operatives take up their duties and confront waves of the Others, they begin to uncover unsettling truths about the origins of these creatures and the society that has trained them to fight, drawn toward a mystery reaching far deeper than the battles fought on the streets of New Himuka.
