Storyline
The tale unfolds in Ferelden, one of many kingdoms in the fictional world of Thedas. Deep beneath the surface dwell the Darkspawn, savage creatures who every few hundred years swarm up from the underground Deep Roads in a devastating cataclysm known as a Blight. For ages, the only force capable of turning back these tides has been the legendary order of warriors called the Grey Wardens. The story begins on the eve of Thedas's fifth Blight. The player character, whose humble beginnings vary by origin, is recruited into the Grey Wardens by their commander, Duncan, and travels south to the fortress of Ostagar. There, the King of Ferelden and his generals prepare to strike at the gathering Darkspawn horde, unaware of just how dire the coming struggle to save the realm will become.
