Amid a gold rush on Ingot Isle, Donkey Kong sets out in search of the prized Banandium Gems, only to find them being plundered by a mining corporation called VoidCo. Its president, Void Kong, is using the gems to power a great ship, intent on reaching the planet's core to claim the Banandium Root, a magical object said to grant the wishes of whoever wields it. Swept deep underground, Donkey Kong discovers a vast hidden world beneath the surface, home to animal societies and their ancient elders. There he rescues a curious companion who is revealed to be Pauline, a teenage girl kidnapped by Void, and receives extraordinary transformative powers from an elder. Together, Donkey Kong and Pauline journey ever deeper toward the core to stop Void's scheme.
